Great Results With Using Your Own Convolution IRs

One of the most outstanding and unique features of Cycle is the ability to convolute the patch/preset. I achieved spectacular results IMHO by creatively using this, and what makes Cycle a good value for keyboard artists looking to find your unique voice. It really alters the game - its a game changer for synth part writing generally, as much as Iris2 is good for beds/drones/pads overall, this feature in Cycle works for any style, and the two work very well together. Try an ambient flute sample as an IR for example., or a rhythmic or arping sample, or a metallic one. The possibilities are endless! This is somehow more basic and controllable than granular synthesis. This is going to make it easy to capture interest from listeners.

What's the skill level you need to start thinking about stuff like this? Should I bother with this as a beginner or should I look to more simple things at first?

It took me about a half hour to try it out. Not complicated. I since have forgotten (as usual) but its easily figured out - at the bottom right side of the interface, just tell it which wave file you want to use - select a wave file that you think is interesting or that will give you creative results along with what you've got in Cycle.

I had played with a demo of this long ago.. I can't believe what an incredible sound design instrument this can be.. There's nothing that sounds like it.. From what I gather nothing has been done with the program for a long time.. It's a shame.. The name of the game is (and always has been) to come up with unique sounds. This certainly does. LOOM by A.I.R is great - but sounds extremely 'electronic'.. Cycle can be messaged into sounding organic.

I agree. Cycle is one of the most exciting synths I have, but needs a little ironing out (not polish, it's shiny enough). I've also been waiting for the distortion plugin ever since announcement.
